United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties Generates Nearly 8,000 Pounds of Food Donations for Local Programs

This year’s United We Can food sculpture competition brought in 7,964 pounds of food donations to support local food programs. Since 2013, this annual event has leveraged a total of 72,496 pounds of food to help community members facing hunger. All donations went directly to five local food programs: FOCUS Food Pantry, FOCUS Neighborhood Meals, FOCUS Family Backpacks, the Family Center, and the Adams Food Pantry.

United We Can is possible thanks to the 90 volunteers who built sculptures, collected donations, and helped distribute the thousands of pounds of food to local programs. Ten teams competed in this year’s event: The Boys and Girls Club of the Wisconsin Rapids Area-Teen Center sponsored by Nekoosa, Connexus Credit Union, Domtar, ERCO Worldwide, Grace Lutheran Church, Opportunity Development Centers sponsored by Chris Inda of NextHome Partners, Paper City Savings, Prevail Bank, Solarus, and WestRock. A team from McMillan Memorial Library also created an impromptu sculpture with food donated the day of the event.

Winners of this year’s competition are:

  • Most Nutritious – ERCO Worldwide
  • Most Creative – Domtar
  • Community Choice, Major League – Solarus
  • Community Choice, Minor League – Grace Lutheran Church
