United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties Gave Away Over 800 Childrens Books!

United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties hosted its 15th annual Great Book Giveaway from June 10-18, 2024 to help children stay up to speed on their reading during their time away from school. This year we are able to add a new location!

Each location had volunteers read their favorite books to the children who attended; afterward each child could select free books to take home and keep.  The books were provided through community donations during a book drive this spring.

All children and youth (from ages birth to 12 years), parents, grandparents, caregivers, and day care providers were invited to attend this free event.  Families came to the event together; and day care providers were welcome to come and bring along all the children in their care. In total, there were 301 children in attendance who received 832 books!

The purpose of the Great Book Giveaway is to get books into the hands of kids to read and enjoy during the summer months.  Kids who read in the summer are less likely to fall behind when the new school year begins. We are looking forward to seeing everyone for next year’s Great Book Giveaway in June 2025.
