United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties’ Women United is holding its annual Power of the Purse event on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:30 pm. The event will take place at Bullseye Golf Club, 2800 Ridgewood Trail, Wisconsin Rapids. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.uwswac.org for $35 per person; and at the door for $40 per person.
Power of the Purse is an annual fundraiser by Women United to help fund local childhood literacy programs such as the Learning for Life Reading Mentor Program, Imagination Library, Below Level Reading Sets, Explorations Book Program, Reading Olympics, and upgrading classroom libraries at local schools.
“Reading proficiency is vital for all children.” said Tari Jahns, United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties’ CEO and a Founding Member of Women United. “You may have heard the saying ‘up through third grade, students are learning to read - after third grade students are reading to learn.’ That is absolutely true and we have the opportunity to help them be successful.” Women United funds programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends a free book every month to children ages birth to five; and Learning for Life Reading Mentor Program, which matches volunteers with students in grades K through third grade, who need extra help with their reading skills. Growing a love of reading is truly making a better future for a child!”

It will be a fun evening of hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent purse auction. Coach, Kate Spade and Michael Kors are just some of the purses that are available for auction. Each purse has been sponsored by a local business. We also have raffle tickets available for a Dooney & Bourke purse and wallet set (need not attend the event to purchase, and need not be present to win). Tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00.
