Protect yourself from identity theft by bringing in your sensitive documents, old tax returns, bank statements, cancelled checks, etc. to be securely shredded on site by Shred Safe! Each individual can shred up to two 18” x 10” boxes for free (we kindly ask for a donation of $5.00 for each box thereafter). Documents brought in to be shredded do NOT need to have the staples removed.
Thanks to our sponsors Bank-a-Count Corp. and Prevail Bank, $1.00 will be donated to United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties for each pound of paper shredded, with a maximum donation of $2,000.
The Shred Day event will be Wednesday, April 13, 2022, 9:00 am – 11:00 am (or until maximum capacity is reached) at the Prevail Bank parking lot - 1601 Lincoln Street, Wisconsin Rapids.
According to www.thebalance.com, the five types of documents to shred to prevent identity theft include:
- Documents containing financial information, such as copies of bank and credit card statements older than three years. You should also shred cancelled checks, voided checks, online purchase orders, etc.
- Documents containing personal information, including your date of birth, social security number, address, phone number or driver’s license number.
- Documents containing account information like your account numbers, user names and passwords.
- Junk mail usually contains a computer barcode on the front that can sometimes contain personally identifying information.
- Child and school related mail, such as medical records and school information.
