United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties’ Financial Security Coalition hosted the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
In this bracketed, quiz-bowl-style tournament, teams of high school students compete by answering questions on finance and economics. This year’s event was attended by 99 students from five area high schools: Amherst, Loyal, Marshfield, Pittsville, and Wisconsin Rapids.
United Way’s Financial Security Coalition collaborates with Asset Builders of America, Inc. and Mid-State Technical College to host this annual event. The competition creates a fun and exciting atmosphere that boosts student engagement, knowledge, and retention of financial topics.
“Looking around the room and seeing how excited and engaged these students are – it’s an incredible feeling to know this event makes such a difference. Basic financial literacy is so important, especially for young people, and to see this many teens involved is a huge win.” said Community Engagement Director Ben Eberlein.
A team from Lincoln High School, including students Josh Bush, Gabe Larson, Jonah Rasmussen, and Olivia Zimmerman won the final match against a team from Amherst High School, including students Otto Anglemyer, Elijah Bohm, Rylie Kostuch, and Elliot Podeszwa. Both teams will advance to the State Championship in Madison on May 21, 2025.
